Alone At War - Offlag 1-4 (Final) - File Description

Alone At War - Offlag 1-4 Description:
Ahhh, It's finished!!!!! AAW - Offlag SP map!!!

"Offlag" series are rather hard maps to fight your way through. If you are new baby to RTCW I advise you play retail game first before trying this maps.

In "Offlag" you will be required to use different tactics, ... and choose your weapons wisely, depending on situation. Each drop of your blood will be precious so running on the enemies hoping they will miss you will be stupid. You will have to think... and plan your strategies!

I scripted enemies so they can have much freedom to make its own decisions. Levels are now even more "independent" and you can play them several times and each time you will encounter different configuration and strategies of enemy. This is specially enforced in level 3 and 4.

Reach in natural environment scenarios and detailed maps and are very important to me.
This is why you may find "Offlag" series to have heavy toe on your computer if your processor is under 800Mhz and you have not the best video card. Computers evolve very fast but mapping takes long time. This is why I try rather make more complex maps instead of maps low in detail that may be nice played on some old systems now, but in one year will be too odd and empty.

I will recommend minimum processor of 800Mzh. with full multimedia support. Your video card MUST be AGP, OpenGL compatible and should have minimum 32Mb Ram. Personally I love GeForse cards. My GeForce2 Titanium card although a bit old has 6.4GB/sec memory bandwidth 64Mb DDR memory and handles 31M triangles/sec. This is far more that you need to play those maps.

Because 3 of 4 maps are outdoor maps you may encounter height polys. "Top" visual places can have as much as 38.000 polys. Official map "forests" I believe have about 24.000 at maximum.

\"Offlag\" series are rather hard maps to fight your way through. If you are new baby to RTCW I advise you play retail game first before trying this maps.

In \"Offlag\" you will be required to use different tactics, ... and choose your weapons wisely, depending on situation. Each drop of your blood will be precious so running on the enemies hoping they will miss you will be stupid. You will have to think... and plan your strategies!

I scripted enemies so they can have much freedom to make its own decisions. Levels are now even more \"independent\" and you can play them several times and each time you will encounter different configuration and strategies of enemy. This is specially enforced in level 3 and 4.

Reach in natural environment scenarios and detailed maps and are very important to me.

Installation:
--------------

Put sp_offlag_levels_1-4_final.pk3 and aaw.bat file into \"AAW\" directory under your \"Return to Castle Wolfenstein\" directory. Not under \"main\" directory.

C:\\yourdir\\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\\aaw

Or

C:\\program files\\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\\aaw

Depends where you have installed RTCW

Start the game by batch file \"aaw.bat\"

(If you have more questions about installation or map will not start read at the end of this document).

---------------------
Know bugs, problems:
---------------------

Level 2 - Light in large room is not the best. Need some more work to fix it.

Level 3 - Unknown bug, problem, issue where at some times models of MG gun and other small arms guns can blink. However this will not happen often if at all. I don\'t know how to fix it yet.

Level 3 - After many \"quick\" save/load\'s the screen can go very light and game performance bad. I don\'t know why this happens? Maybe 4 pivot lights are too much for the engine? If this will happen to you, you must start level 3 from beginning. If you don\'t have \"normal\" savings take down console and write:
\\spmap aaw3

Thank you for downloading and playing those maps

------------------------------
Installation additional info:
------------------------------

Some get confused with installation so I will explain it again:

You just make directory \"aaw\" under Return to Castle Wolfenstein\" directory
and put there file:

sp_offlag_levels_1-4_final.pk3 and aaw.bat file.

Start game with aaw.bat file

It\'s important that directory \"aaw\" will be under your \"Return to Castle
Wolfenstein\" directory. Such directory you get if you don\'t modify paths when
you install original RTCW.

On my comp I have RTCW in:

c:\\Program files\\Return to Castle Wolfenstein

just add directory \"aaw\" to it

c:\\Program files\\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\\aaw

and put sp_Offlag_levels_1-4_final.pk3 + aaw.bat file there and start with aaw.bat

-----------------------
Why such installation??
-----------------------

This is Single Player map. SP mapping lays under different engine \"rules\" that Multiplayer maps.

1. Placing *.pk3 file along with start-up *.bat file in separate directory under \\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\\aaw is necessary evil. SP engine seems to be programmed in such way that number of options like mission briefing, notebook, clipboards hanging on walls along with other thinks don\'t work if not placed in separate directory. If I would like to place pk3 file under \\Return to Castle Wolfenstein\\main folder, as this is case for Multiplayer then I will have to edit and include with my map main pak0.pk3 file (308Mb.), which is of course not possible. More easy is to place my *.pk3 file is separate folder.

2. All user quick saving and saving in general along with screenshots and custom config of the game will be save in separate directories under \"aaw\" directory. This is very comfortable for the player. His/her savings of game will not be mess up with retail version.

3. This type of sp map installation is applied by other mappers, which cares to bring to public fully utilized sp mapping experience

IMPORTANT:

If you installed those maps as I instructed you to do and still they don\'t work that means your game is screw-up. RTCW is quickly screw-up if you downloaded different files to main directory from Internet. You should reinstall entire game and apply latest patch. After that everything will work fine.
