 |
NOTE: This file has become outdated and there's a newer / better version available. You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!
Description:
We've received an E-Mail from Activision shortly after the patch was released regarding issues some people are having with this patch and how to resolve them, thx Caryn! Here it is:
Quote: Hey everyone,
Been following the forums post-update release and I'm seeing a lot about installation problems and a lot of people are asking me on ICQ about a non-install version of the patch.
There's no need: there is a link at the top of the readme that explains how to extract the files if you're having problems with the installer.
There's also info in the readme about what's compatible with what: those who've upgraded to 1.1 can play on 1.0 servers, but we encourage everyone to update so the multiplayer issues get fixed
Thanks,
Caryn Law
This update for Return to Castle Wolfenstein is primarily to resolve multiplayer server specific issues that have come up.
This update will upgrade your full version RTCW retail game to version 1.1
The addressed issues are as follows:
- Zombie Clients issue resolved
- Lieutenant grenade spamming solved
- Issue with loading single-player maps fixed
- Various server stability issues implemented
- Link to easily find future updates
- Added Voice-Chat abuse fix
A few quick notes from me after reading the readme (which is below this description):- You WILL still be able to play against people that have not updated their game with this patch and vice versa.
- This patch will not impact your single player save games in any way (it's a "multiplayer patch")
|

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION
Refer to this document for more information about the Return to Castle Wolfenstein 1.1 Update. For more general information, please see the Readme and Help files included with the original game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALLATION & SET UP ISSUES
1. The update won't install:
============================
You must have a full retail version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein installed properly on your system before you will be able to install the update. If for some reason the installer is not able to find your install directory, please see the section below on "Extracting the necessary files without installing."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Extracting the necessary files without installing:
=====================================================
Recommended only for System Administrators and advanced users. It is possible to extract the necessary files without running the installer. To do so, simply open the update using any unzip program. Once you have it open, you'll want to replace these original files (located in the RtCW root folder) with the new versions located in the update:
Anet.inf
CGAME_MP_X86.DLL
QAGAME_MP_X86.DLL
UI_MP_X86.DLL
Wolfmp.exe
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ISSUES ADDRESSED IN 1.1
1. Zombie Clients issue resolved:
=================================
The reported issue with zombie clients filling spaces on servers left running for more than 24hrs has been resolved.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Lieutenant grenade spamming solved:
======================================
The bug allowing Lieutenants to throw grenades while in binoculars has been resolved.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Issue with loading single-player maps fixed:
===============================================
There were many problems caused by launching single-player maps in multiplayer since they were not intended for multiplayer use. It is no longer possible to launch single-player maps from within a Multiplayer game.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Various server stability issues implemented:
===============================================
Several bugs that caused servers to crash when left on for more than 24hrs were fixed. These fixes should greatly increase the potential number of servers available on a daily basis.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Link to easily find future updates:
======================================
Once you install the update, a new link will be added to your start menu. You will be able to use this to check in with www.CastleWolfenstein.com to view any additional updates, maps, and other official downloads.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Added Voice-Chat abuse fix:
==============================
The max number of voice chats you can issue within 30 seconds is now defaulted to 4. Every time you issue a voice-chat, it looks back 30 seconds to make sure you haven't already issued the maximum number in that time period. In other words, if you repeatedly hit "VRA", you will get 4 "I need ammo!" calls in a row, and from then on, it will only issue one every 8 seconds with the default setting.
This will allow for normal usage of voice-chats, but NOT allow someone to just continually holler requests a dozen times in a row (we all hate that).
If a server would like to change the setting, the new cvar is "g_voiceChatsAllowed." The number given is how many voice-chats within 30 seconds. So the default is 4. A higher number will allow for more chats, while a lower number will allow even less.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COMMON QUESTIONS
1. Will I be able to play against users who have not updated their version to 1.1?
===================================================================
We strongly recommend that everyone download this small update - especially people running dedicated servers for long periods. However, you will be able to play against users who have not updated their version to 1.1.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Will this update impact my save games in single player?
==========================================================
No. The Return to Castle Wolfenstein 1.1 update only addresses multiplayer issues and your save games will not be affected in any way.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Where can I check for other updates, such as maps, patches, and demos?
==========================================================
Once you install the update, a new link will be added to your start menu. You will be able to use this to check in with www.CastleWolfenstein.com to view any additional updates, maps, and other official downloads. | |

Somebody really needs to make a no install version or something because my barrage of hate mail to Activion is being largely ignored.

Pro-Filer (Staff) From: (Amsterdam) Joined: March 2nd, 2001 Posts: 2724 | Just because RTCW uses Q3A engine doesn´t mean there are bots
Yes it's possible, let's hope some1 in the community is able to do it.
But actually I remember something about Rich W. (forgot his full last name) doing bots, but I'm not sure if it was for RTCW or for SoF 2 he's got a site at telefragged called Rich's Warehouse... I'll go and look for it |

Anyway, I do believe there is someone that could help with bots or something because he has made a mod for half life where it uses bots and you can contact him to see if he can help at all. The website is http://www.planethalflife.com/botman/
Well Pro-Filer or anyone that wante ME to e-mail him e-mail me because i've talked to him before about some bot problems i had. Get back to me! |

NOT MAKE HARDWARE TO RUN GAMES :upyours: OH and put some freakin bots in ffs, i don't want a big ***** DISH on my roof and a fortune in net bills so i can have a good net connection. IF i had money i would have purchased out your company by now and burnt it.

good site to |
Pro-Filer (Staff) From: (Amsterdam) Joined: March 2nd, 2001 Posts: 2724 | If you didn't want high phone cost bills or whatever u should keep playing UT or Q3A or thought about your RTCW purchase... but then again, there might be bots in it sometime...
And thx leathal, the guy i was talking about is at http://www.telefragged.com/thefatal/ he's made the hidebot for SoF together with Raven Software (dev. of SoF), let's hope he or "Botman" does the same for RTCW... honestly I think it's just a matter of time, but then again, i know !@%@ about bots and stuff |
Atty Joined: January 15th, 2002 Posts: 12 | k you can enable bots but like i said i get an error sayin that "Bot "name" is not defined"
go into the console and in multiplayer <server only> type in
/bot_enable 1
now it ll say bots enabled
now type in
/addbot
then itll give you something like this:
addbot "name" "skill 1-4" "team" "ping"
then when you type in for example
/addbot Psycho 4 1 0
itll say
Bot psycho is not defined
there is also a command for debugging bots
/bot_debug
so if anyone figures out how to work this damn thing tell me

Guest () Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | God, that other guy is right. Until you make your own game shut up. And there is no thing to add bots. Just a leftover file from Q3A. And anyways, if there were bots the AI would suck 'cause the multiplayer games are too complex. And my bills aren't that high and I got cable. So I alwasy got kickas*s connection. And if the game doesn't work for you or something, then return it. And it did work right outta the box and this patch wasn't even necessary so be greatful. This game worked great right outta the box where-as some games kinda didn't. *Black & White* So all a you just shut up. |
Guest () Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | Oh, and it worked fine for me. |
Guest () Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | well it's nice to see people supporting people who have tech probs or people who are unsatisfied with their purchase. Sure take the game back mate tell them you can't hear sound only on the intro and the game does not have bots. Those are perfectly understandable reasons to go all the way back to the shop in your spare time and take it back.If you have problems similar to above keep this in mind, Download the demo before your next purchase and if you even find one problem you don't like. don't buy the game even if it's as good as this one, and the demo is never really like the full game. Better yet why don't you help those warez sites and download the full game from them to "TEST" it, then "DELETE" it after 24 hours and buy the game if it works properly. Hold in there!. There are some really helpful and smart people like atty still out there thinking and working on those bots. Most Americans will never understand how much a descent internet connection costs down here, i suggest you go else where fo sympathy on that subject.
Also
You Get what you pay for most of the time. Keep those great games ah coming cause i never have any problems even Black 'N' White |

Guest () Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | okay, we understand that there were bots in quake3 arena. we know that rtcw uses the quake3 arena engine. but there are no bots in rtcw and nobody removed the bot commands from the engine!
sure, take the game back if ur disatisfied, but if u downloaded the rtcw demo, u'd know that there were bots in that. for some reason activision took them out of the full ver. |

Guest () Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | 3 options bud
1 e check the key and make sure it's all in lowercase, if your dislexic (spelling sorry) you'll probly have some letters mixed up.
2:take game back and swap it for another
3:check to make sure the key has been entered in the multiplayer options and then click verify, if it don't work unistall game and start all over again.
sorry thats the best i can offer you |

Stupid release multiplayer sucks. Activision support sucks too. For that amount of $ how about some fixes or real support!
Now this patch says I don't have the retail game installed...Win Me can natively unzip ZIP files but this P.O.C. is an EXE and so now I've got to install a 3rd party zip utllity to see if I can get into the EXE for a manual install!

Guest () Joined: December 31st, 1969 Posts: | Will the next patch have a bit quicker level loading times? Mine take about 30 seconds to a minute. I got a Dual P3 800 with Geforce 2 ans 196MB RAM. It shouldn't be that slow should it?
Sometimes I also get alot of hard drive activity during the game which slows it down. Should I get 512MB RAM? Any suggestions?
And will someone be implementing a good bot into the game one day? Because MP is very involving, and bot commands would be very complex for it, but it could be done because I own UT and Q3A, and the bots are great on them.
P.S. Great job on Wolfenstein guys, you guys are cool. I have owned every ID Software game since the original Wolfenstrein 3D. |

I have a P4 1.5GHz with a 3D Prophet II*****anium (a maxed out Geforce 2) and my loading times are about 20 to 25 seconds. I have 256MB of RDRAM (RAMBUS PC-800). Also I'm running with the latest Detonator drivers too for what I've got and there seems to be no problem for me. Speeds of the loading & speeds in the game are excellent. How fast is your hard drive? Mine is 7200RPM! That could be the problem or an undefragged hdd too. Make sure you have the latest drivers too for your video card and that you have a nice amount of space for your swap file (since RtCW takes up about 723MB). |

NO, there are not bots.
BUT, leaving these commands in should make it easier to implement bots. however i havent looked at much of the bot stuff in q3 so i cant say much more on the subject.
